More Information

Relaxing at Onsen

Visiting Onsen is a must when in Japan. There are several options to suit different comfort levels — we're happy to suggest the best one for you.

1. Public Onsen — Bathing without swimwear may feel unfamiliar for non-Japanese guests, but it is a truly authentic cultural experience worth trying at least once in your lifetime.
2. Private Onsen — Some facilities offer private onsen rooms, typically around ¥10,000 per group.
3. Onsen with Swimwear — While less common, a few onsens do allow swimwear.

Dynamic Nature

The Hakone region sits atop an active volcanic zone, giving rise to its famous hot springs and dramatic landscapes. Ride the ropeway over Owakudani to witness the raw power of volcanic activity up close, or cruise the serene waters of Lake Ashi — formed by ancient eruptions — and soak in the breathtaking surroundings. Private cruise on Lake Ashi is also available upon request. (from ¥15,000 per group)
On a clear day, you may even be treated to a stunning view of Mount Fuji!

Looking for a more dynamic Mt. Fuji experience? We recommend our dedicated Mt. Fuji Tour which takes you closer to the mountain for truly spectacular views.

Rich Culture

If you're interested in samurai and ninja history, Odawara Castle — conveniently located on the way to Hakone — is a must-visit, offering a fascinating glimpse into their world.
Prefer a slower pace? Stop by Amazake Chaya, a charming traditional teahouse with 400 years of history, and enjoy a quiet moment that truly immerses you in the timeless atmosphere of old Japan.
Built over 1,200 years ago, powerful Hakone Shrine is famous for its Instagram-worthy torii gate.

Art and Museum

Hakone is home to diverse museums for all ages. At the Hakone Open-Air Museum, discover sculptures by renowned Japanese and Western artists displayed in a beautiful outdoor setting — a great experience for families with children.

Step into a little piece of Venice at the Hakone Glass Museum, or visit the Japanese art museum on the shores of Lake Ashi, where the café offers stunning views of Mt. Fuji on a clear day.
At the Marquetry Museum, learn about the traditional craft of marquetry and enjoy live demonstrations by skilled craftsmen.

Food & Shopping

No visit to Hakone is complete without trying the famous black eggs of Owakudani Valley — legend has it that eating one adds seven years to your life!
Another local specialty is the Onsen Steamed Bun, a delicious treat steamed using natural hot spring water and a true must-try in any onsen town.
For street food and souvenirs, Hakone Shopping Street is the perfect place to browse and snack.
