Cruise on JDM Honda NSX

Many car enthusiasts have 1 or 2 dream cars they admired as children. For me, it was the Honda NSX.
This iconic supercar was created by Honda in the late 1980s, during the company's golden era in Formula 1. Partnering with McLaren and driven by the legendary Ayrton Senna, Honda dominated the motor sport, and the technology, engineering philosophy, and racing spirit from that remarkable partnership were poured into the creation of the first-generation NSX.

At age 14, I knew none of that history. I simply fell in love with its beautiful shape and built a TAMIYA model kit. More than 30 years later, that design has not aged, but it stands out even more elegantly today.

About this Tour

HONDA – The Power of Dreams.
Few companies have turned that philosophy into reality as consistently as Honda.

Honda’s journey toward the NSX began with its motorsport ambitions, from the Isle of Man TT to Formula 1 victories and the legendary McLaren-Honda partnership of the late 1980s. The technology, philosophy, and passion developed during this golden era were ultimately distilled into the first-generation NSX.

More than 30 years later, its elegant design remains timeless. Its lightweight handling, thrilling VTEC engine note, and unmistakable JDM character continue to captivate enthusiasts worldwide.

Join us and experience this automotive icon cruising through Tokyo streets and expressways.

More Information

1. Human-Centered Design & Aerodynamics

Unlike many supercars of its era, which were expected to be difficult to drive, hard to enter and exit, and compromised in visibility to prioritize speed at the expense of usability, the NSX was designed around the driver.
Inspired by Formula 1 engineering, Honda created a car with exceptional visibility, everyday usability, and aerodynamic efficiency with outstanding high-speed stability, proving that a supercar could be both exciting and comfortable.

This human-centered approach shocked the supercar world and influenced even established European marques such as Ferrari.

2. Ayrton Senna’s Real-World Testing & Tuning

When Ayrton Senna tested a prototype at Suzuka in 1989, he criticized the body rigidity as insufficient. Honda’s engineers responded by redesigning the structure and ultimately creating an exceptionally rigid all-aluminum monocoque for a production car.

Senna also provided specific feedback from his test sessions to significantly firm suspensions. This led to the development of an all-aluminum suspension system and careful chassis tuning that balanced precise handling with remarkable ride comfort.

3. The World’s First All-Aluminum Monocoque Production Car

Honda’s pursuit of lightweight construction and rigidity, principles honed in Formula 1, culminated in the NSX’s groundbreaking aluminum structure. Extensive use of aluminum in both the body and suspension reduced weight by roughly 200 kg compared with a comparable steel structure while maintaining exceptional rigidity.

This advanced engineering impressed many industry figures, including renowned supercar designer Gordon Murray, and went on to influence future high-performance road car development around the world.
