Spring for Japanese begins with the blooming of the cherry blossoms. Their life is so fleeting that luck plays a crucial role, as the timing of the blossoms changes every year.

Japanese wisteria booms after the cherry blossoms have ended their short life in. They are so elegant that one of the oldest aristocratic families began using the name Wisteria in their title.

The Sanja Matsuri festival is one of the biggest spring festivals in Tokyo, held in Asakusa in mid-May to honor the founders of the famous Sensoji Temple.

The Takayama festival is held twice a year, in spring and autumn. The mechanical dolls (Karakuri Ningyo), made during the Edo period, perform for the audience. The Spring Festival is held every April 14

The Cherry Blossom

The cherry blossom is the quintessential symbol of Japan, heralding the start of spring. Although the air still carries a chill, the simultaneous blooming of cherry blossoms, after a long and cold winter, has the extraordinary power to awaken the world from its slumber, transforming the earth into a paradise in a fleeting moment. The allure of the cherry blossom's full bloom captivates people around the world, yet the day when it reaches its peak, in all its glory, lasts for only one brief day each year.

Seasonal Food

Spring in Japan offers a unique selection of vegetables and seafood. New shoots like bamboo and canola flowers are seasonal delicacies, along with fresh produce such as spring onions and potatoes. The sea, still cooler, offers snapper and bonito as the star seafoods of the season. Japan is also famous for its wide variety of citrus fruits, with over 80 types available, alongside vitamin-rich strawberries. These fresh offerings symbolize renewal and are celebrated for their delicate yet vibrant flavors that mark the season.

Flower

As cherry blossoms begin to fall, Japan comes alive with the blooming of a variety of seasonal flowers. Azaleas, wisteria, canola blossoms, and irises paint the landscape in vivid colors, while fresh greenery breathes life into parks and countryside alike. This season transforms Japan into a vibrant floral wonderland, inviting travelers to experience the delicate beauty of spring. From gardens to mountainsides, these blooms make every corner of Japan a picturesque destination for nature lovers.

With clear skies and low humidity, spring in Japan is ideal for outdoor adventures. The countryside bursts with life, offering an enchanting setting for activities like mountain biking, kayaking, and SUP (stand-up paddleboarding).
