Experience the Art of Samurai
Iaijutsu is not about attacking to win, but about responding instantly to an unexpected assault, defending oneself with precision and mastery.
Tamiya-ryu Iaijutsu is a traditional sword style founded over 400 years ago by Tamiya Heibei Narimasa, a direct disciple of Hayashizaki Jinsuke Shigenobu, the legendary originator of Iaijutsu. This technique, refined through the turbulent Sengoku era, was later adopted as an official martial art by Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Edo period.
Praised for its elegance and dignified movements, Tamiya-ryu has been passed down through generations and recognized as an Intangible Cultural Asset of Japan in 1988. Today, its legacy extends beyond Japan, with dedicated practitioners in the United States, Canada, and beyond.
