100 Years Old Folk House

Staying in a traditional house over 100 years old, sleeping on a futon on tatami mats, and living close to nature offers a unique experience unlike a 5-star hotel. You’ll see preserved food hanging under the eaves and various daily necessities inside the house. During your stay, immerse yourself in Japanese countryside life, just like the locals. Please note that there are two friendly mascot cats on the property.

Visit to local market is a great way to explore the area and interact with locals. Shop for a variety of fresh, locally harvested produce and enrich your dinner menu with vegetables straight from the fields. After checking into a traditional Japanese farmhouse, the owner will help you to prepare a Japanese style dinner together, learning from local will be memorable experience.

The spherical plants hanging from the eaves of the sake brewery, known as "sugidama," are made from cedar leaves. Each year, a new green sugidama is hung to announce the brewing of fresh sake. As the leaves age and turn brown, it signifies the aging process of the sake. During the brewery tour, you’ll learn about sake, taste to find your favorite bottle to take home, and enjoy it with dinner in a traditional Japanese house.

You will visit a woodworking artisan's studio and learn how to make chopsticks.

Listening to the artisan's stories, you will explore Japanese culture from a new perspective, such as the differences in how Western people think about wood, a material that is universal, and the tools they use.

The chopsticks will make a great souvenir that can be used not only during your stay in Japan, but also after you back to home.

When you visit Kasamori Kannon Temple, built in 1028, one of many temples remaining in the midst of abundant nature, you'll be surprised by its quiet and private experience that's hard to find in Tokyo and you'll be moved by the preciousness of this beautiful 1000 year-old wooden structure built on a rock, existing not just as a photo spot, but as a part of everyday life of local people.

Izunadera Temple is home to transom carvings by Nami no Ihachi, a famous wood carving artist who was said to be the best in the world at carving waves and who had a major influence on Hokusai's works "The Great Wave off Kanagawa."

The dynamic waves, expressed in a unique style of relief carving, give the temple a powerful feeling, as if they are about to surge forward, along with the smell of the sea.
